Less than a month!

As some of you may know, my first triathlon is coming up in less than a month! For those of you wondering if I feel ready or if I think I will finish, the answer is no, not at all. But, I am determined to push myself everyday of training to achieve my goal.

When I decided to pursue the goal of completing a triathlon this year, I had no idea what I was in store for. One of the things I did not expect was the varying distances in each category. Let me explain:

The Sprint is 0.5 miles Swim, 12.4 miles Bike, and 3.1 mile run
The Olympic is 0.93 mile Swim, 24.8 mile Bike, and 6.2 mile run
The Ironman 70 is 1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike, and 13.1 mile run
The Ironman is 2.4 mile Swim, 112 mile Bike, 26.2 mile run

During the fall of 2016, I started to feel as though the Sprint category was not challenging enough for me. I decided to work towards the Olympic category instead. It was exhilarating to know that I would be participating in the same race they do in the Olympics! The training is hard as I have to exercise one of the disciplines each day.  I usually swim twice a week, bike twice a week, and run two or three times a week. I try to take a rest day for my body to recuperate. My training sessions usually take me between 20 minutes and two hours, depending on the distance and sport.

Today, I completed 0.93 miles of swimming for the first time! I am incredibly happy as this was the only sport I hadn’t reached the minimum distance requirement. I was already able to meet the distances for Biking and Running. My next challenge is being able to do all three sports right after each other. We’ll see how that turns out on Race Day 😉

I would love it if you followed my race on Facebook! Here is the link to my page:https://www.facebook.com/severine.wider. Feel free to add me as a friend and stay posted on my progress.

Until next time,
Severine
